From photographer to nurse
-Thanks to a university entry exam I managed to make
“a switch” in the middle of my life. I loved my job as a
photographer but knew there was an academic dream
to pursue when the time was right.
- The exam was initially something I did just for fun,
but it led me to want to go to medical school and
become a doctor. Once I applied, I was only 1 point away
from getting in. At that point time a wise person said
the magic words "the nurse is the patient's advocate"
and that settled the matter for me, I was sold.
Three years later, Henrietta finished the nursing program
and today works in the children's intensive care unit.
- I love it as much as I loved my job as a photographer.
The reactions to Henrietta making a "switch" in the middle
of her life have not been long in coming.
- So positive. Many people have encouraged me along the way and several people my own age have been so inspired that they have started studying themselves. It is so gratifying.
When asked about the pros and cons of changing careers mid-life, the answer comes quickly.
- The advantage of not being really young is the life experience I have gathered, that automatically creates security and trust. The downside is that you don't have as many years left in a profession that I love.
